Move submarine maintenance to Perth from Adelaide, says navy expert
Retired navy commodore Paul Greenfield says successful submarine programs keep maintenance and operations close together.
A member of the review team that turned around the performance of Australia's ailing Collins class submarines says heavy maintenance should be moved to Perth from Adelaide, as Scott Morrison indicated the politically sensitive decision could be delayed until next year.
Retired navy commodore Paul Greenfield told The Australian Financial Review that comparable foreign navies co-located their submarines' home port and maintenance yards, unlike Australia which based the Collins class in Perth but performed full cycle dockings in Adelaide.
