HK students fortify campuses as Canberra calls for calm

Shanghai/Canberra | Hong Kong university campuses were transformed into fortresses on Thursday as students reinforced barriers and stockpiled food in anticipation of further attacks by police as the city entered its fifth consecutive day of fresh political unrest.

Schools in Hong Kong were closed until Monday due to increasingly violent clashes between police, protesters and local residents. Dozens of students from mainland China have fled the city, while there were major disruptions to public transport networks on Thursday.
