Media companies are backing the government's world first crackdown on Facebook and Google, which looks to loosen the tech giants' stranglehold on advertising and tackle the misuse of citizens' data.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Communications Minister Paul Fletcher unveiled the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's 619-page Digital Platforms Inquiry final report on Friday, which includes 23 recommendations to rein in the dominance of the US technology giants.
