Theresa May offers chance of 2nd Brexit referendum
London | British Prime Minister Theresa May unveiled a 'new and improved' Brexit deal on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST), pleading with uncompromising lawmakers from all sides to get out of their trenches and support this "last chance" to quit the European Union.
Locked in a prolonged political stalemate three years after the vote to leave the EU, Mrs May is offering sweeteners to her Northern Irish supporters, is trying to win Labour votes with promises to keep EU rules on workers' rights and environmental protection, and has dangled the prospect of MPs voting to hold a second referendum on leaving the 28-nation bloc.
