Larrikin, scholar and Labor's most successful PM
Andrew ClarkSenior writerBob Hawke, who presided over Australia's transformation into an open economy, and was the ALP's most successful prime minister, died on Thursday at his home. He was 89.
Hawke might not have been the great originator, but, like Mikhail Gorbachev, who presided over the transformation of the Soviet Union, he was the great facilitator.
