The ACTU’s position that the minimum wage should be high enough to meet the needs of a couple with just one income gestures towards a complete reset of the wage system.

Unions and Bill Shorten have loudly pushed the idea of a “living wage” on the back of outrage that the minimum wage was apparently consigning people to poverty and failing to cover basic costs of living.
