First home buyers Sumit Kundu and Anju Dahiya had never heard of negative gearing before they moved to Australia from India.
Regulator-driven credit curbs to investors, and possibly bank caution during the royal commission, however, helped out the couple – both of whom work in IT – by cutting out competition from investors when they bid successfully on a $730,000, three-bedroom house in Watsonia, in Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs, in December.
