Former Liberal Party deputy leader and foreign minister Julie Bishop will quit politics at the election, drawing to a close a 21-year career and diminishing the Coalition's already depleted ranks of senior women.
Ms Bishop's decision, which has long been anticipated, is likely to spark a lively preselection contest for her safe Perth seat of Curtin.
