Christopher Pyne denies $50b submarines are facing delay, cost blowouts

Australia will be able to walk away from the $50 billion submarine contract if the French designer runs two years late in delivering the first boat or costs blow out by 25 per cent as the Defence Department takes a hard line during tense negotiations.
Senior sources say the exit clause is designed to protect Australian taxpayers by holding Naval Group accountable to a firm deadline and price over the design, build and delivery of the 12 boats.
