Watch this online space: retailers seek to capitalise on timeless appeal of luxury
It seems even the world of fine watches isn't protected from the online shopping juggernaut, with luxury e-tailer Mr Porter about to make desirable brands such as Panerai, TAG Heuer and Jaeger-LeCoultre available at the click of a button by the end of this year.
With currently 13 brands in its growing fine watch portfolio, the Richemont-owned luxury mens' online boutique says this is no mere experiment to try to capture a new market. Mr Porter's buying director Fiona Firth says a watch is a natural addition to a man's wardrobe, with the site already recording purchases of up to £99,000 per timepiece.
