If something feels familiar about Kia Schwaninger’s work, it might be that you recognise the curve of New York’s art deco buildings, the grace of its skyscrapers, all their charming, often hidden, little features.
“This ring,” she says, pointing to the Abacus ring from her debut collection, Colorhythms, “I created for myself. I started with this half-round shape that reminded me of the amazing art deco architecture you see in New York, and the beautiful details you see in those buildings. The mounting is very much an ode to that.”
