The creative mind behind Bulgari’s bejewelled ‘investment’ bags

Fashion designer Mary Katrantzou is now officially leading the charge at Bulgari’s accessories division, creating bags as precious as a piece of high jewellery.

Mary Katrantzou with one of her Bulgari designs that features “Calla”, a curved fan-shape that was inspired by the mosaic floor of Rome’s Baths of Caracalla.

Fifteen years ago, not long after she’d founded her eponymous womenswear fashion label, Mary Katrantzou was having dinner in London with her mentor, the renowned Central Saint Martins professor Louise Wilson.

Suddenly, Katrantzou’s now-husband Marios Politis leant over to Wilson and lamented: “Mary has already achieved so much, yet she still doesn’t believe in herself.”
