Oscars praise lavished on women but men scoop top gongs
Ten directors were nominated for the top prize in their industry yesterday – but not one was a woman.
Bong Joon-ho took out the Academy Awards for best picture and best director for Parasite, as widely predicted, in a year that saw high-profile female directors like Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers) and Greta Gerwig (Little Women) snubbed. Instead, the contributions of women were discussed widely by presenters and winners alike.
