Over the American summer, David Lauren – son of fashion emperor Ralph – took up tennis again after a long hiatus. “It’s a great COVID sport because it’s very easy to social distance. I had a bunch of lessons this summer – I wouldn’t say I’m very good, but I love it – and then my four-year-old started to play, too. It really is a game that bridges many generations.”
Lauren, 49, who holds many titles at his father’s company – chief innovation officer, strategic adviser to the CEO, head of the Ralph Lauren Foundation, vice-chairman of the board – has previously brokered deals to outfit Wimbledon and the US Open, as well as America’s Olympic teams. Now, he has won outfitting rights to the Australian Open, taking over from Country Road. Starting from next year, all officials at the Open will be dressed by Ralph Lauren.
