How TV dramas are boosting designer fashion

What actors wear on screen is being used more widely as a signifier of status and achievement, just as it is in real life.

The costume designers for Jennifer Aniston's character, left, in "Morning Wars" chose designs not dissimilar to the way the star dresses in real life.

There is a pivotal moment in Morning Wars, the hit drama from Apple TV+, in which Jennifer Aniston's veteran anchor character, Alex Levy, announces that the relatively unknown field reporter Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) is to be her new co-host.

The scene is full of tension, and Aniston's delivery is flawless. But one of the most memorable things about it for me is the red strapless jumpsuit Levy wears to make her announcement. It's a departure from her otherwise muted palette, and it represents everything I love in evening wear: it's bold, elegant and comfortable, and, most importantly, it does not overshadow her personality.
