Read any sort of statistic about the fashion industry and its relationship to the planet and you’re likely to spiral into a state of despair, particularly if you happen to love clothing (and, er, the planet, of course).
I am that person. I compost, I recycle my plastic, I try to purchase mindfully. And yet I am often – as in, more than once a week – tempted to buy new clothing, shoes and accessories. It’s an occupational hazard, I like to joke, but it also has a very real impact: the manufacturing process, the water and chemicals it uses, to say nothing of the wasted materials often involved. Shipping is another consideration, and then there is the matter of returns if something shouldn’t fit.
