Former lawyer set to open first native botanicals fragrance store
Starting a scented candle and perfume shop in the middle of a pandemic might seem brave, even foolhardy. But Craig Andrade has a vision that brooks no failure.

When NSW’s interminable stay-at-home orders begin lifting this month, Craig Andrade will be ready. For months, the founder of native Australian fragrance purveyor Raconteur has been putting the finishing touches to the brand’s first store – set in a charming row of terrace houses turned chic boutiques in Paddington, Sydney.
Already, masked click-and-collect customers and passers-by linger surreptitiously outside, peering through the display window at the beeswax lampshades, the dramatic botanical installations hanging from the ceiling, the scented candles under glass domes – arrayed, like precious installations in a gallery, on plinths fashioned from river red gum stumps and capped in brass.
