One of the first things Georgina Brujic did when she took over as chief executive of Sydney jewellery house Fairfax & Roberts was to throw open the doors to its Castlereagh Street boutique. Literally as well as metaphorically.

"The doors used to be closed and a guard would open them for you," says Brujic. "I said, 'I'd never walk into this store because it's telling me not to.' So one of my first jobs was to make it a bit less difficult for people to walk in."
