Emma Elizabeth’s Local Milan collective is about distilling the essence of Australian design for the world to see.
A couple of weeks back, as the good citizens of Milan filed into the Duomo cathedral for Sunday lauds, a few blocks away creative director Emma Elizabeth (above) was supervising the installation of work by the 44 Australian designers she had rallied together for the Salone del Mobile, aka the Milan Furniture Fair.
Electricians, sound technicians, shipping agents, carpenters, caterers and florists, and 11 students from Melbourne LCI Art & Design School and a couple of their teachers were all preparing for the rapture that is the world’s most important design fair.
