Professor Philip Oldfield is professionally obsessed with skyscrapers and, of late, plyscrapers and vertical extensions.

Plyscraper is the punning term for buildings that use engineered “mass timber” to rewrite the century-old rule book for constructing office blocks and residential towers. The world’s tallest plyscraper, in Milwaukee, is 25 storeys high and many taller examples are being proposed.
