A Brett Whiteley painting estimated to sell for up to $3.5 million is the latest in a growing trend that sees big-ticket works offered to the market in their own dedicated private sales.

Yellow, 1975, is being offered in a “private auction” by Smith & Singer at 5pm on October 10. Described by the auction house as an “exceptional masterpiece”, the work comes from a period regarded as a high point in Whiteley’s career.
