Inside a Brutalist concrete building on the Strand, in central London, a kapok tree from the Colombian rainforest stretches up towards the sky and down below the earth. The leafy branches on its umbrella-like crown shimmer as they breathe in air, a silvery photosynthesis that crackles bark as the process travels visibly through bulbous buttresses into roots that, absorbing nutrients, glow blue and gold and brown.
This is Sanctuary of the Unseen Forest, a large-scale video installation that pushes at our sensory limits while underscoring the immensity of the natural world and acknowledging its vital, usually invisible components.
