The Art Gallery of NSW has emerged as the buyer of Sidney Nolan’s 1946 painting ‘First Class Marksman’, the most expensive artwork sold at auction in Australia.
The Art Gallery of NSW has emerged as the buyer of Sidney Nolan ’s 1946 painting First Class Marksman, the most expensive artwork sold at auction in Australia.
The gallery will today unveil the painting, which it is believed to have bought with funds from the estate of the late artist James Gleeson and his late partner Frank O’Keefe.
