Mark Zuckerberg’s wife statue joins bad art of the rich and famous
The sculpture is utterly arbitrary and that’s what makes it bad. It’s also what makes the vast majority of AI-generated art so bad.
I love really bad sculptures of the rich and famous. They’re a special, taste-defying genre of their own, more interesting – and somehow more mind-deranging – than the deliberately kitsch art of Jeff Koons or John Currin or the knowing cack-handedness of Cy Twombly or Pablo Picasso.
We’ve seen the moves of Pablo Picasso and Jeff Koons. We long ago incorporated them into our idea of what art can be. They may be mostly compelling (Picasso), or mostly irritating, but they no longer pose an existential challenge to our sensibilities.
