I concede, one of Diana’s astrologers (she had two) would be better placed to assess the Princess of Wales at 60. Yet how different, but for that fatal crash in Pont de l’Alma 24 years ago, would the Windsors and the world be as the ex-wife, mother, and grandmother of five turned 60 on July 1?

Several artists have imagined how she might look but, had she lived, the relentless click of the paparazzi would have exposed any surgical enhancements (the odd filler and the occasional peel, perhaps). But the enduring, leggy, blonde, blue-eyed beauty of her mother, Frances Shand Kydd, whom Diana so closely resembled, suggests there would have been little need of a scalpel.
