November auctions are traditionally the least spectacular of the year, but Menzies has left the best for last with a bumper sale that includes the collection of the late Millie Phillips, a self-made businesswoman who made her fortune in mining.

The Phillips collection alone, featuring blue-chip artists such as Lloyd Rees, Sidney Nolan, and Fred Williams, is worth between $2.5 million to $3.3 million. In total, Menzies’ 153-lot sale is expected bring between $6.5 million to $8.8 million, making it the company’s biggest auction of the year.
