Records keep toppling as the art auction year drives to a dynamic end. The industry is well poised to reach or even surpass last year’s total of $108 million in sales, despite a major hiatus caused by extensive lockdowns. The industry has successfully played catch up, with
total takings so far this year at $101 million.

Last week, Smith & Singer brought in $12.2 million (including buyer’s premium), in the year’s single most lucrative auction, on the back of just 78 lots.
