Beware, Brisbane – giant birds are striking in September

Florentijn Hofman, the Dutch artist behind Sydney Harbour's supersized rubber duck, is unveiling his latest work at this year's Brisbane Festival.

An artist's impression of one of Florence Hofman's giant finches in situ on Brisbane's Goodwill Bridge – one of six that will grace the city throughout September.

Florentijn Hofman is renowned – or notorious – as the artist behind the overgrown rubber duck that has bobbed around no fewer than 25 cities since it debuted in the French town of Saint-Nazaire in 2007.

It materialised on Sydney Harbour in January 2013, and returned the following year for a brief visit to Parramatta. It was attacked by vandals in Belgium in 2009 and made headlines when it deflated in Hong Kong in September 2013, being transformed into a floating omelette.
