A golf fan's dream - Tiger faces off with Ernie
It doesn’t get any better for golf lovers – the Presidents Cup tees off in Melbourne on December 12, with the stakes sky high for the Internationals.
Royal Melbourne, the host club for this year’s Presidents Cup, is used to witnessing miracles.
In 1963, South African Gary Player flew for 58 hours from Paris to Melbourne – via New York, San Francisco, Hawaii, Fiji and Sydney – to play in the Australian Open there, landing only five hours before he was due to tee off. Without seeing the course beforehand, and with a local caddie on his bag, Player shot 70, 70, 70 and 68 to win the tournament by seven shots.
