Virgin Australia capitulates under union pressure

Virgin Australia has caved to government and union pressure over the search for its new chief executive by ruling chief customer officer Paul Jones out of the running ahead of a critical decision on the sale of a 25 per cent stake in the airline to Qatar Airways.

The airline took the unusual step of releasing a statement on Friday afternoon that removed Mr Jones – a former Qantas executive unpopular with the Transport Workers Union – as a candidate to replace current CEO Jayne Hrdlicka.
