Lucas BairdReporterIt took almost three weeks after interviewing the two candidates, Vanessa Hudson and Olivia Wirth, for the board to decide who would replace Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce.
With every day that went past, the likelihood Hudson would claim the top job increased. To some senior figures inside the company, it appeared an open secret that Joyce, who flagged his departure last year, was backing his chief financial officer over Wirth, the popular head of Qantas Loyalty.
