Feds must empower states to collect road user charges
At the heart of the issue is a question of how one implements a road user charge on electric vehicles, not whether one should exist.

The greater fuel efficiency of all newer vehicles, and the welcome fact that electric vehicles do not use fossil fuels for power, means fuel excise revenue – the charge collected by the Commonwealth government from motorists every time they fill up at the bowser – is in terminal decline.
