Air NZ first-half profit climbs
Air New Zealand, which recently bought a stake in Virgin Blue, said its first-half net profit rose to $NZ98 million from $NZ56 million in the year-earlier period.
In a promising sign for the coming Tasman tie-up between Virgin Blue and Air New Zealand , the Kiwi carrier said its trans-Tasman bookings are climbing at a faster rate than expected as both airlines prepare to start shared flights.
Air NZ said bookings between Australia and New Zealand have lifted by 15 per cent since it started its “seats to suit" model, which offers cheaper base air fares to passengers, who then pay extra for everything from meals to additional bags and in-flight entertainment.
