Optus sued by regulator for breaches in 2022 cyberattack

Optus has been hit with a lawsuit in the Federal Court from the communications regulator alleging it did not protect customers’ confidential information before being struck by a cyberattack in 2022.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has filed proceedings related to the September 2022 cyberattack alleging Optus failed to protect the confidentiality of “personally identifiable information” of its customers from unauthorised interference or access.
