If the pandemic was Australia’s nemesis ahead of getting to Tokyo, once we got there it was the United States.

The Yanks pipped Team Australia to gold – or the chance for it – in beach volleyball, the Matildas lost the battle for bronze to them on Thursday, and the US relegated the much-loved Boomers to the bronze play-off in men’s basketball.
