Every year the MCC, which owns Lord’s cricket ground, has a lecture on the Spirit of Cricket, a worthy event that seeks to preserve the fiction that the game is a metaphor for life, and not just a means by which a few highly gifted men earn a vast amount of money by playing it professionally.
If whoever has the honour of delivering the next lecture is lacking a subject, the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow should provide ample fodder for consideration.
