Future of Rugby chair in balance after emergency board meeting

Rugby Australia directors have asked rebel state unions to halt their attempt to oust the organisation’s embattled chairman, Hamish McLennan, until Sunday evening to give him time to consider his position.

A defiant Mr McLennan told The Australian Financial Review on Saturday that the six state unions who had called for his resignation were acting on self-interest, accusing them of preparing a “smear campaign” against him. “Very grubby stuff,” he said.
