The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) wants the federal government to spend an extra $314 million over the next four years to boost an Olympic performance medal tally that has only declined since Sydney 2000.
The request – for an extra 65 per cent on the $482 million funding already planned for high-performance sport – comes less than two months before the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games, and identifies a 10-year “runway” for investment in athletes before the 2032 Olympic Games which Brisbane is in the box seat to host.
