Woolworths pet acquisition stirs old competition issues
A suspended timeline for a final decision by the competition regulator on Woolworths’ acquisition of Petspiration Group has invited speculation that the supermarket giant may be running into trouble on its purchase, and forced to sell stores to win approval.
Two pet industry sources said the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is delving into prior deals done by the company, PETstock, which took place before Woolworths snapped up a 55 per cent stake last December. The ACCC and Woolworths declined to comment.
