Investors blame supermarket ‘arrogance’ for dodgy discount lawsuit

The dominance of Woolworths and Coles could have made the country’s two supermarket giants arrogant, leading the competition regulator to pursue them for allegedly deceiving shoppers by claiming higher prices were lower.

That’s the view of Investors Mutual portfolio manager Hugh Giddy, who suggested that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission allegations, filed in the Federal Court this week, would lead to hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.
