Online retailers and their shareholders are paying the price for assuming that the massive shift to e-commerce early in the pandemic would continue.

Pure-play e-commerce retailers Kogan, Adore Beauty, Cettire, Booktopia and Temple & Webster were big beneficiaries of the coronavirus crisis, which accelerated the uptake of e-commerce by five years in five months when stores were forced to close during lockdowns in 2020.
