Profits at Australia's premier department store chain, David Jones, fell 57 per cent to $20 million in the December-half as heavy discounting exacerbated weak sales and foot traffic.
In comments that auger poorly for rival Myer, David Jones chief executive Ian Moir said the "disappointing" result reflected the tough retail market as well as some self-inflicted injuries.
