Australians rush back to pubs, but sector short of staff

Australians filled pubs and clubs on Sunday to pay their respects on Anzac Day and play two-up, fuelling the sector’s recovery, but proprietors say they are being held back by labour shortages.

Amongst the hardest-hit parts of the economy during the nationwide shutdown in the first half of last year, pubs are now benefiting from high consumer confidence and pent-up demand for discretionary spending outside the home.
