Try harder to fix the constitution: West Australian chief justice Wayne Martin
Western Australia Chief Justice Wayne Martin has urged politicians and interested citizens to work harder to fix the constitution, which could stop almost half the nation from running for Parliament.
The Chief Justice expressed optimism the "draconian operation" of section 44, which since the October High Court ruling has disqualified dual citizens from federal Parliament and forced byelections, including for former deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, could encourage enough Australians to vote for a change.
