A swath of recent female appointments to top in-house roles highlights the need for law firms to catch up on promotions lest more women flee to opportunities beyond private practice.

Among prominent appointments has been Anne Collins, who was promoted from KPMG's general counsel in Australia to run the firm's global legal team, while Origin Energy's former senior legal counsel Louise Capon stepped into Ms Collins' former role.
