Lawyers’ and funders’ picnic halves payout to Vocation victims
The Federal Court has signed off a $50 million payout from collapsed education company Vocation to its investors but warned the slew of plaintiff law firms and litigation funders involved in the case would take almost half the settlement.
It brings the five-year class action, which alleged Vocation’s IPO prospectus contained misleading statements and material omissions and also saw former Australian treasurer John Dawkins and auditor PwC sued, to a close.
