A surge in innovation among professional services firms added an estimated $12 billion to the economy last year, delivering firms an average $585,000 boost from $171,000 invested.

Professional firms in legal, accounting, IT services, management consulting and engineering sectors on average spent $171,000 over the past 12 months, compared to the national average of $300,000, a Commonwealth Bank report found.
