The federal government is seeking views on how to deal with the emerging threat of social media users encouraging people to take part in tax avoidance schemes, as part of its response to the PwC tax leaks scandal.

Concerns about social media being used to promote tax avoidance have also been raised by the multibillion-dollar GST fraud executed via TikTok that encouraged users to fraudulently claim a refund from the government.
