Andrew Forrest’s Fortescue Metals Group has shipped iron ore from the remote part of Western Australia since 2013, but the traditional landowners haven’t received a cent.
When the Yindjibarndi people stepped on their red land in the remote north of Western Australia on Tuesday, they saw trestle tables cloaked in black fabric and the Commonwealth coat of arms, heralding the arrival of the Federal Court.
The native titleholders have been waiting 15 years for this moment, the last chapter in an epic legal war with Andrew Forrest’s Fortescue Metals Group.
