Why Australia is behind Canada and the US on critical minerals
Government grants worth $50 million are welcome, but Australia needs to do much more to realise its grand ambitions for the industry.
Jennifer HewettColumnistLithium veteran Ken Brinsden welcomes Thursday’s announcement of $50 million of government grants to 13 companies involved with critical minerals processing, describing it as “constructive”.
But he says Australian governments will have to move a lot further and faster, including making more direct investments in projects, if the country is to realise its ambition to develop a truly viable, value-adding industry at scale.
